PRACTICAL INFORMATION

What an Asbestos Survey Can Help Establish

  • Which accessible suspect materials were identified
  • Where representative samples were collected
  • What the laboratory results indicate
  • Which materials may affect the planned scope of work
  • What additional investigation or project controls may be appropriate

The appropriate survey scope depends on the building, planned disturbance, access and jurisdiction. A consultation helps us define the right starting point.

BEFORE DISTURBANCE

Do Not Rely on Appearance Alone

Asbestos cannot be confirmed or ruled out by visual observation alone. If suspect materials may be cut, sanded, drilled, removed or otherwise disturbed, arrange an appropriate evaluation before work begins.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Asbestos Consulting FAQs

Have a project-specific question? Contact us and we will help identify the appropriate starting point.

When should an asbestos survey be completed?

A survey is commonly needed before renovation, demolition or other work that may disturb suspect building materials. The required scope depends on the project and jurisdiction.

Can you tell whether a material contains asbestos by looking at it?

No. Visual assessment identifies suspect materials, but laboratory analysis of representative samples is generally needed to determine whether asbestos is present.

Do you perform asbestos removal?

No. TESTS Environmental is an independent consulting firm and does not perform asbestos abatement. This separates the assessment and oversight role from the removal work.

What information should I provide for a proposal?

Share the property location, building type, planned work, approximate schedule, areas involved and any existing surveys, plans or photographs available.
