LEAD SERVICES
Testing and Consulting Tailored to the Property
The appropriate scope depends on the building, occupancy, planned work and purpose of the evaluation.

Collection of settled-dust samples from selected floors, window sills and troughs to evaluate lead-dust conditions.
Soil Sampling
Representative sampling of accessible soil areas to evaluate lead concentrations near buildings, play areas or other locations of concern.
Lead Air Sampling
Personal or area air monitoring to document airborne lead conditions during applicable construction or abatement activities.
Clearance Sampling
Post-work visual observations and dust-wipe sampling to document conditions following applicable lead-related work and cleaning.
Pre-Renovation Testing
Focused paint-chip sampling of components that may be disturbed during renovation, repair, maintenance or demolition activities.
Project Monitoring
Independent field observations, air sampling and documentation during lead-related construction or abatement activities.
Compliance & Report Review
Review of existing laboratory data and project documents to identify information gaps and support informed planning.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
What Lead Testing Can Help Establish
- Whether sampled painted components contain reportable lead
- Where lead-containing paint was identified within the agreed scope
- Whether selected dust, soil or paint samples contain reportable lead
- Which components may affect planned renovation or repair work
- Whether post-work areas meet the applicable clearance criteria
Paint, dust, soil, air and clearance sampling answer different project questions. We help define the appropriate service before fieldwork begins.

BEFORE DISTURBANCE
All Paint Deserves Appropriate Evaluation
Especially buildings constructed before 1978 may contain lead-based paint. If painted components will be sanded, scraped, cut, drilled, demolished or otherwise disturbed, determine the appropriate testing and regulatory requirements before work begins.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Lead Testing FAQs
Have a project-specific question? Contact us and we will help identify the appropriate starting point.
How is painted material tested for lead?
Representative paint-chip samples are collected from the components included in the agreed scope and submitted to a qualified laboratory for analysis.
What types of environmental lead samples do you collect?
Depending on the project, TESTS may collect paint-chip, dust-wipe, soil or air samples and coordinate analysis with a qualified laboratory.
When is clearance testing performed?
Clearance is performed after applicable lead-hazard control or renovation work and cleaning are complete. It generally includes a visual assessment and dust-wipe sampling under the applicable protocol.
What information should I provide for a proposal?
Share the property address, year built if known, building type, areas involved, reason for testing, planned work, schedule and any existing reports, plans or photographs.
